Lookin' good, but we can use some help!

Are you concerned about how your downtown looks? Do you have great taste, or a great sense of style? Do you coordinate colors well? Does everything you touch look good? Or, do you have graphic design experience? We need you! Please call us to find out about helping on the Main Street South Orange Design Committee.

We help merchants with signage, awnings, lighting, facades, and windows, and we get involved with all new construction projects. It's fun stuff to work on and rewarding to see your ideas come to life! Please call 973-763-6899 or email director@MainStreetSouthOrange.org to volunteer.

Welcome to Main Street South Orange

Main Street South Orange, Inc. is a not-for-profit, volunteer-based organization whose goal is to revitalize downtown South Orange by stimulating business opportunity, historic preservation, and community growth. Founded in 1991, we are volunteer committee members working in partnership with all the stakeholders to improve the downtown by implementing the Main Street Four-Point Approach. This involves design, promotion, organization and economic development.

Main Street South Orange is guided by Main Street New Jersey, a program of the NJ Department of Community Affairs, Office of Smart Growth.

Main Street New Jersey provides selected communities with technical assistance and training of proven value in revitalizing historic downtowns. The program helps municipalities improve the economy, appearance and image of their central business districts through the organization of local citizens and resources. Designated in 1991, Main Street South Orange is one of the longest-operating Main Street organizations in New Jersey!

The National Trust Main Street Center is a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation . In the 1970s, the National Trust developed its pioneering Main Street approach to commercial district revitalization, an innovative methodology that combines historic preservation with economic development to restore prosperity and vitality to downtowns and neighborhood business districts. There are more than 1,200 active Main Street programs nationally.
